Early Sunday morning, a shocking incident took place outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Mumbai residence in Juhu. Police confirmed that at least five rounds were fired at his nine-storey building around 12:45 am. Fortunately, no one was injured, though one bullet shattered the glass of a gym located within the premises. It remains unclear whether Shetty was at home during the attack.
Investigation Reveals Bishnoi Gang Connections
Initial investigations have revealed that the accused may have links with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police detained five people in Pune just hours after the shooting, and they were later brought to Mumbai for further questioning. Four of them were formally arrested by the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch after evidence suggested they had provided logistical support to the shooters. The arrested individuals include Aman Marote (27) and Aditya Gayaki (19), both residents of Karve Nagar, along with Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18), and Swapnil Sakat (23), all residents of Dhayari. Police also identified connections to Shubham Lonkar, who is linked to the Bishnoi gang and is an accused in the Baba Siddique murder case.
Threatening Social Media Post Sparks Alarm
Shortly after the firing, a threatening post appeared on social media claiming Shubham Lonkar was behind the attack. The post warned Rohit Shetty and the Bollywood industry about potential dangers if limits were not respected. It read, “If he (the filmmaker) doesn’t listen, the next bullets won’t be outside his house; they will be inside his bedroom.”
The post named other Bishnoi gang members, including Hari Boxer and Harman Shandu, and referred to the attack as a “trailer,” implying worse actions could follow. Authorities are investigating the post as part of the ongoing probe.
Enhanced Security and Ongoing Investigation
Following the incident, security around Rohit Shetty’s residence was significantly increased. Teams from the Juhu Police and Mumbai Crime Branch responded immediately. Investigators are examining CCTV footage, ballistic evidence, and forensic reports to piece together the events. A case has been registered under charges of attempt to murder along with relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Senior police officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and all angles, including potential gang rivalry motives, are being thoroughly explored.
