Arden Cho recently shared an interesting story about how she landed the lead role in the animated movie KPop Demon Hunters. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Arden revealed that she originally auditioned for a completely different character. She did not expect to be cast as Rumi, the main character, which made the experience surprising and exciting for her.
Arden Cho Initially Auditioned for Different KPop Role
Arden explained that back in August 2022, she sent a simple voice audition for the character Celine. At that time, she did not think much about it and did not hear back for a long time. Almost a year later, she received an email asking her to audition again, but this time it was for Rumi, the lead role. She was shocked but thrilled. Arden was on vacation in South Korea, yet she immediately booked a flight to attend the audition in person.
After her callback session at Sony, things moved quickly. Arden said the session lasted about an hour, and just a month later, she officially began working on the film. She described the entire process as unexpected but rewarding. The role of Rumi turned out to be one of the most important moments in her career, allowing her to connect deeply with the story and the character.
Her co-star Ahn Hyo-seop also spoke about his first reaction to the movie. He said the title KPop Demon Hunters sounded unusual at first, mixing pop music with demon fighting. However, after reading the script, he found it fun, playful, and meaningful. He believed the story would inspire young viewers and appreciated being part of an animated project that delivers positive messages to children.
KPop Demon Hunters has become a huge success since its release on Netflix. In December 2025, Netflix announced the movie reached 500 million views. The film follows a K-pop girl group who secretly fight demons while living their superstar lives. It has won major awards, including Best Animated Feature at the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. Arden said she feels grateful to be part of a movie that brings joy and inspiration to audiences worldwide.
