Singapore actress Chantalle Ng is starring in a new Mediacorp drama called The Grind, where she plays an office lady for the first time. In the show, Chantalle plays Li Rongjia, a former professional badminton player who quits sports and tries to live a normal corporate life. Her character faces many struggles because she lacks office experience and qualifications. During an interview with AsiaOne, Chantalle shared that if she were not an actress, she could imagine herself living a simple office life that includes morning yoga and eating fish beehoon soup for lunch.
Chantalle Ng Shares Perfect Office Life in New Drama
Chantalle explained that she has never seriously thought about changing her career because she is enjoying acting. She graduated from university about five years ago and had planned to try acting for three years before choosing another path. However, things worked out well for her, and she has received many good opportunities. She began her acting journey in 2013 and later signed a full-time contract with Mediacorp. Over the years, she has grown more confident in her work and feels acting suits her personality better than an office job.
Before fully committing to acting, Chantalle studied Information Systems at Singapore Management University and graduated in 2019. She chose this course because she wanted to learn a “hard skill” like coding, which she felt would be useful in the future. Although she once thought about working in social work, she realised it was emotionally challenging for her. If she ever leaves acting, she said she could imagine herself working in computer science.
Through filming The Grind, Chantalle learned more about office life. She shared that office jobs are more routine, while acting schedules change every day. She also noticed that office workers often work with the same people, while actors meet new teams for each project. One fun takeaway for her was discovering her love for fish beehoon soup during lunchtime, which she now considers part of her “perfect life.”

The drama also reflects the theme of letting go, something Chantalle relates to personally. She once had to quit volleyball due to an injury, which was very painful for her. She believes that walking away from something you love can sometimes lead to better things. The Grind is now available on MeWatch and airs on Channel 8 on weekday nights.
