Simu Liu, the actor who plays Shang-Chi, has confirmed that his character will appear in the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Secret Wars. After debuting in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Liu is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for both Avengers: Doomsday in 2026 and its sequel in 2027. Fans of Shang-Chi are excited to see the hero back on screen after his first movie.

Liu shared the news while attending New York Comic Con. He said there are not many details to reveal about the second Shang-Chi movie yet, but it is happening. He also teased that Shang-Chi will play an important role in Secret Wars, which is the sequel to Avengers: Doomsday. Liu expressed how lucky he feels to continue portraying a character that has inspired so many fans around the world.
Avengers: Doomsday will feature an impressive cast including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Anthony Mackie as Captain America. The movie will also introduce the Fantastic Four, including Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic and Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman. X-Men characters like Professor X, Magneto, and Mystique will also appear, along with Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers. The story will follow these heroes as they unite to stop Doctor Doom from causing chaos in the Multiverse.
Simu Liu said that playing Shang-Chi “means everything” to him. He shared that being part of the MCU is a huge honor because he gets to work with legendary actors he admired while growing up. Liu also mentioned how grateful he is for the support of Marvel fans. He explained that fans often tell him how much they missed seeing Shang-Chi in the MCU, which makes returning to the role very special for him.
