Actor Lewis Pullman, son of original Spaceballs star Bill Pullman, has revealed that he never met comedy legend Mel Brooks during the filming of Spaceballs 2. Lewis shared this surprising detail while appearing on the popular talk show The View. Even though Brooks wrote and helped guide the sequel, he did not visit the set during production. Lewis said filming recently ended and the experience was exciting, especially because the movie is connected to such a famous comedy classic.

During the interview, Lewis explained that Mel Brooks chose not to come to the set because he prefers staying at home. However, Lewis made it clear that Brooks was still deeply involved in the project. He said Brooks helped shape the movie’s ideas and creative direction from a distance. According to Lewis, Brooks’ influence was felt throughout the production, even without his physical presence. The sequel is highly anticipated, especially because Brooks is returning to play his classic characters, Yogurt and President Skroob.

Lewis also shared a personal moment that meant a lot to him. He revealed that Mel Brooks sent him a voice message offering him the role. Lewis said the message was very special and something he wished he could keep forever. Growing up, Spaceballs was one of the few movies from his father’s career he was allowed to watch as a child. He remembered loving the humor and later joking that Star Wars felt like a serious remake without jokes.
Talking about the sequel’s script, Lewis described it as “smart and dumb at the same time,” which he said was the perfect balance for Spaceballs. He praised the writing for being clever while still embracing silly humor. He also said stepping into the Spaceballs world felt like entering sacred ground because of how beloved the original movie is among fans.
