Julia Dawn Cole, the actress beloved for playing Veruca Salt in the classic 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, recently brought fans a heartwarming moment of nostalgia. Her playful reenactment delighted fans of the movie and reminded everyone why her character remains one of the most memorable spoiled children in film history.
Julia Dawn Cole Reenacts Veruca Salt Scene
In the original movie, Veruca Salt causes trouble during the tour of the candy factory, especially when she demands that her father buy her a golden goose. When she steps onto the Eggdicator, the machine judges her as a “bad egg,” sending her tumbling into the garbage chute below. While the scene became iconic for its humor and drama, Cole’s recent recreation showed the warm, friendly personality behind the character. Wearing a red dress similar to her costume from the film, she joked about “flashbacks” and asked playfully if the platform would drop her again.

Cole also took time to remember her co-star, Gene Wilder, who played the brilliant and mysterious Willy Wonka. She often speaks lovingly of Wilder and repeated her admiration during the visit. Cole said she was only 12 years old during filming and deeply appreciated his kindness, patience, and respect toward the young actors. Wilder treated the children like equals, never dismissing them or brushing them aside. Cole has shared that she felt comforted by his warmth, especially because she was homesick while filming in Germany.
Gene Wilder’s death in 2016 inspired Cole to reflect publicly on how much he meant to her. She has said that the emotional honesty in the film came from Wilder’s genuine nature. She believed the chemistry between the cast worked so well because Wilder truly cared for the kids. His tenderness in scenes especially when he hugs Charlie Bucket near the end of the movie remains one of her strongest memories of him.
