Former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah will be released from federal prison earlier than expected. According to new information shared with PEOPLE, the Federal Bureau of Prisons has approved December 10 as her new release date. Shah has been serving her sentence since February 2023 for her role in a nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme that targeted thousands of victims, including elderly people. Her sentence has been reduced several times because of good behavior and her active participation in prison programs.

Those close to Shah say she is extremely grateful for the chance to reunite with her family sooner. Her manager shared that Jen is in a positive and hopeful state of mind, and she wants to leave this difficult chapter behind her. During her time in prison, Shah has reportedly spent time reflecting on her mistakes and working on personal growth. She has also begun paying restitution, as she was ordered to repay $6.5 million to victims of the fraud scheme.

Shah, who is 52, has been serving her sentence at the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. The minimum-security prison is also known for housing other high-profile inmates. She explained that she is doing everything she can to pay back the victims and rebuild her life in a better, more responsible way.

Throughout her incarceration, Jen’s husband, University of Utah football coach Sharrieff “Coach” Shah, has remained supportive. He has visited her regularly, and Jen has shared heartfelt messages about their strong family bond. She celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary in August with a touching social media post thanking him for his love and support. Shah has also written openly about her emotional struggles in prison, explaining that faith, prayer, and therapy have helped her stay strong.
