Ali Larter, the popular actress from the hit Paramount+ series Landman, recently opened up about her decision to move away from Hollywood and build a peaceful life in Idaho. In an interview with Fox News Digital, the 49-year-old star explained how the change began during the COVID-19 lockdown when schools in California were closed. She and her husband, actor Hayes MacArthur, decided to spend a short time in Idaho so their children could attend in-person classes. What started as a temporary two-month visit soon became a life-changing choice for the entire family.
Ali Larter Escaped Hollywood’s Heavy Social Demands
Larter shared that the move allowed her young daughter to go to kindergarten and enjoy a normal school experience with other children. During this time, the family bonded more closely and enjoyed simple activities like skiing and meeting new friends. The peaceful environment and slower pace made them think deeply about what they truly wanted for their family’s future. When they returned to Los Angeles for the summer, the contrast became clear.

According to Larter, Hollywood comes with many social expectations. Actors often have to appear at events, parties, and charity functions, along with constant auditions and public activity. Although she loves Los Angeles and still feels connected to it, she realized the lifestyle did not allow her enough time with her children. This pushed the family to make a permanent move to Idaho, choosing a calmer and more family-centered life.
While promoting season two of Landman, Larter explained how she prepares for her role as Angela, a confident and glamorous character. Her routine includes working with acting and dialect coaches, staying fit, eating clean, and taking time to mentally prepare before filming. She also spoke about filming scenes that require confidence, such as her bikini scene, and how discipline and preparation help her feel comfortable in front of the camera.

She loves doing simple things like school drop-offs, cooking family dinners, and enjoying the cozy winter season. For her, Idaho offers the balance, comfort, and togetherness that she always wanted for her family.
