MSNBC Rebrands as MS NOW, Spending $20 Million to Refresh Image and Retain Loyal Viewers

After nearly 30 years, MSNBC is getting a new name MS NOW. The change will officially happen on November 15, 2025. The rebranding aims to avoid confusion between MSNBC and NBC News, which are now separate under Comcast. The company is spending around $20 million on this major marketing campaign, which will be visible on billboards across the U.S., from Times Square to Los Angeles Airport.

MSNBC Rebrands as MS NOW to Refresh Identity

To help with this big transition, Rachel Maddow, one of the network’s most popular hosts, is leading the campaign. The new ads feature Maddow reading the U.S. Constitution and the late poet Maya Angelou reciting her poem “Human Family.” These ads are designed to remind viewers of shared American values like unity and democracy. The slogan for the campaign is “Same Mission. New Name.” The message is clear while the name will change, the channel’s focus on news and truth will remain the same.

MSNBC’s new name, MS NOW, stands for “My Source for News, Opinion and the World.” The “MS” part continues from its original partnership with Microsoft, which ended in 2012. The channel hopes this small but symbolic change will refresh its image and connect with a broader audience. The new logo, an abstract version of the American flag, is also part of the rebranding effort to reflect a modern and patriotic tone.

However, the name change comes at a challenging time. The network’s viewership has dropped by 34% this year as many liberals, discouraged by current politics, have turned away from cable news. Yet, MSNBC still remains strong during prime-time hours, often doubling CNN’s audience. Its loyal viewers, many of whom are older, watch for about eight hours a week.

Through this rebrand, MS NOW wants to assure its audience that their favorite programs and anchors like Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Jen Psaki will continue as usual. The only difference will be the name. As Rachel Maddow said, she was first unsure about the change but now sees it as “a chance to reintroduce ourselves to the country.” With MS NOW, the network hopes to build a fresh identity while staying true to its mission of independent journalism and trusted news.
