The Kannada film Kantara Chapter 1, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, has created history at the box office. It has officially surpassed Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, earning over Rs 809 crore worldwide. Chhaava, which held the top spot earlier, had collected around Rs 807 crore during its run.

Released on October 2, 2025, Kantara: Chapter 1 has been a massive hit in India and overseas. In India alone, it has earned approximately Rs 557 crore, while overseas collections have added another $13 million, making it a global success. The film was released in multiple languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, helping it reach audiences across the country.
The film is a prequel to the 2022 film Kantara and tells the story of the divine forest and the Daivas in 4th century coastal Karnataka. The story revolves around the conflict between Berme, a tribal leader played by Rishab Shetty, and the invading Kadamba kingdom, which is trying to take control of the resource-rich land. The movie blends mythology, folklore, and action, giving audiences an exciting cinematic experience.
