Veteran Tamil music composer MC Sabesan, popularly known as Sabesh, passed away in Chennai on Thursday, October 23, 2025, after a long battle with illness. He was 68 years old. Sabesan was widely respected in the Tamil film industry and is remembered for his contributions as one half of the famous composer duo Sabesh-Murali.

MC Sabesan began his musical journey alongside his brother Murali, under the guidance of their elder sibling, composer Deva. The brothers initially worked as assistants in the music industry before gaining recognition. Their breakthrough came in 1999 when they composed the background score for the film Jodi, starring Prashanth. The opportunity arose when AR Rahman, who had composed the songs for the film, was unavailable to create the background music. The duo’s work was widely appreciated and marked a turning point in their career. They later debuted as independent music directors with the film Samuthiram.

Over the years, MC Sabesan -Murali composed music for several acclaimed Tamil films such as Pokkisham, Koodal Nagar, Milaga, and Goripalayam. Their last song compositions were featured in Kavaathu (2017), while their final background score was for Meendum Oru Mariyathai (2020).

Sabesan belonged to a family with a strong artistic legacy. His son, Karthik Sabesh, and nephew Jai are actors, while his nephews Srikanth Deva and Bobo Shashi continue the family’s musical tradition as composers. Sabesan is survived by his son Karthik and two daughters, Geetha and Archana.
Throughout his career, Sabesan was known not only for his musical talent but also for his dedication and humility. Many of his compositions reflected a deep understanding of emotion and melody, making him a beloved figure in Tamil cinema.
