Comedian and actor Rajiv Thakur, known for his work on The Kapil Sharma Show, recently shared his thoughts on what it takes to succeed in the entertainment industry. Rajiv began his comedy career alongside Kapil Sharma in Amritsar before moving to Mumbai. While Kapil became one of India’s most popular TV stars, Rajiv mostly played supporting roles on his shows.
Rajiv Thakur Criticizes Uday Chopra’s Acting Career
In an interview, Rajiv Thakur emphasized that talent is more important than connections or family background. He explained that even with Kapil Sharma’s support, success depends on the channel and the audience. “Kapil can take me along once or twice, but if the channel doesn’t want me, then that’s it. Nobody can make an untalented person succeed,” he said.
To illustrate his point, Rajiv used the example of Uday Chopra, son of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra. Despite having fame, resources, and opportunities, Uday Chopra’s acting career did not reach the level expected. Rajiv explained that talent and audience connection matter more than money or backing. “Even Yash Raj Films, known for launching new stars, could not turn him into a top actor. Ultimately, the audience decides who succeeds,” he said.
Rajiv Thakur also shared that his own journey in television was not easy. It took him eight years to become a permanent member of Kapil Sharma’s cast. This shows that hard work and consistent effort are necessary to survive in the entertainment industry.
Apart from comedy shows, Rajiv has also acted in Netflix’s series ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ and played the antagonist Ibrahim Akhtar in ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, where his performance was well-received by audiences.
Uday Chopra is known for movies like Dhoom, Dhoom 2, Dhoom 3, and Pyaar Impossible. Later, he became the CEO of YRF Entertainment, supporting films such as Grace of Monaco and The Longest Week. Even with such a strong background, his career shows that fame alone does not guarantee success.
