A shocking incident took place in Nagpur on Wednesday when Priyanshu Thakur, an actor who appeared in the Amitabh Bachchan film Jhund, was stabbed, hit with a stone, tied with a wire, and left to die by a friend. Thakur, 21, popularly known by his character name ‘Babu Chhetri’ in the movie, was found severely injured and later died on the way to the hospital.

According to police reports, Thakur’s friend Dhruv Sahu, 20, visited his house in the Nara Basti area of north Nagpur in the early hours of Wednesday. The two went to a deserted area nearby and began drinking. Soon after, an argument broke out between them. Sahu later told the police that Thakur had threatened to kill him. In anger, Sahu stabbed Thakur, hit him on the head with a stone, and tied him with a wire to prevent him from seeking help or going to a hospital. Sahu then fled the scene.
Local residents discovered Thakur around 3 am with stab wounds and head injuries. A blood-stained stone was found nearby. Priyanshu’s sister, Shilpa, filed a complaint naming Sahu as the suspect. Senior Inspector Arun Kshirsagar confirmed that Sahu has admitted to committing the crime.
Priyanshu Thakur gained recognition for his role in Jhund, which was released in 2022 and based on the life of Vijay Barse, founder of the NGO Slum Soccer. His performance in the film was praised by audiences and critics alike. However, after the film’s release, Thakur faced legal trouble when he was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 5 lakh.
