Unni Mukundan Steps Away From Marco Sequel As Makers Register New Title Lord Marco

Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has officially confirmed that he will not be a part of the sequel to his 2024 blockbuster Marco. The announcement has surprised fans, especially since the film was a major box office hit. However, the actor shared that the negative reactions surrounding the project pushed him to step away.

Unni Mukundan Exits Marco Sequel, Lord Marco Begins

Earlier this year, Unni responded to a fan’s query on Instagram about Marco 2. He explained, “I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity.” His honest response suggested that while he appreciated the success, he wanted to move forward with new and positive ventures.

Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni, was a spin-off from the 2019 film Mikhael. It followed the violent gangster Marco, played by Unni, and showcased his rise within the gold mafia in Kerala. Despite its criticism for heavy violence, the movie emerged as a huge success, crossing ₹100 crore globally and becoming the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film.

Now, in a new twist, reports suggest that Cubes Entertainment has registered the title Lord Marco at the Film Chamber. This has led to strong speculation that the makers may continue the franchise without Unni Mukundan. Director Haneef Adeni and producer Shareef Muhammed are believed to be attached to the project, though there is no official confirmation yet. Fans are now debating who could possibly replace Unni in the lead role if Lord Marco moves ahead.

Meanwhile, Unni Mukundan has announced his next big project a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi titled Maa Vande. Directed by filmmaker Kranthi Kumar CH, this film is expected to be one of the most ambitious projects of his career.

For now, the future of Lord Marco remains uncertain, but the buzz is strong. Whether the makers officially confirm the sequel or not, the audience’s curiosity continues to grow. On the other hand, Unni seems ready to step into new territory with his PM Modi biopic, proving he is not afraid to take bold decisions in his career.
