The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, held in Los Angeles on Monday (IST), turned into a grand night for streaming platforms. Netflix and Apple TV+ dominated the stage with their shows Adolescence and The Studio, which won the highest number of awards.
Netflix’s Adolescence, Apple TV+’s The Studio Win Big
Netflix’s limited series Adolescence received six trophies. It was the second most-watched series on the platform and made history with young actor Owen Cooper, just 15 years old, becoming the youngest Emmy winner ever. He won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series and called the moment “so surreal.” Erin Doherty also won Supporting Actress, while Stephen Graham bagged both Lead Actor and Writing awards, apart from a directing prize for the show.
Apple TV+’s comedy The Studio broke records with 13 awards, the most for any debut season and for any comedy in a single year. The show won Outstanding Comedy Series, and Seth Rogen stood out by taking home three trophies for acting, writing, and directing. On stage, Rogen admitted he was “embarrassed by how happy” the recognition made him.
In drama, The Pitt won three awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. Actor Noah Wyle earned his first Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, dedicating it to hospital workers. Katherine LaNasa was honored as Supporting Actress. Severance, another Apple TV+ hit, collected two trophies. Britt Lower won Lead Actress, while Tramell Tillman became the first Black winner in Supporting Actor for a Drama Series.
Other highlights included Jean Smart’s fourth Emmy for Hacks and Hannah Einbinder’s first win as Supporting Actress in the same show. Cristin Milioti earned Lead Actress in a Limited Series for The Penguin.
Variety and reality categories also made news. Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special beat Beyoncé and Jay-Z for Outstanding Live Variety Special, while Last Week Tonight with John Oliver added two more trophies, reaching 32 lifetime wins. Reality hit The Traitors continued its streak with Best Reality Competition Show for the second year in a row.
