Michelle Yeoh Reveals Granddaughter’s Funny Reaction To Her White-Haired ‘Wicked’ Character Look

Michelle Yeoh, the Oscar-winning actress, is enjoying a busy and successful phase in her career. From powerful roles in movies like Crazy Rich Asians and Everything Everywhere All at Once to voicing a mother in the animated hit Ne Zha II, Yeoh continues to shine. But despite her success, her most honest critic is her granddaughter Raelyn, who sometimes finds her roles a little strange.

In Ne Zha II, which is already the highest-grossing animated film ever with more than $2.2 billion worldwide, Yeoh voices Lady Yin, the strong and protective mother of a boy born with special powers. The movie tells a touching story about parents, love, and acceptance. Yeoh says she was inspired by her own mother while playing this role, as her mom is still “feisty” at 84 and continues to give her advice about clothes and hair.

For Michelle Yeoh, Ne Zha II is not just about magic and adventure but also about showing how parents protect their children, even when kids don’t fully understand it. She hopes young viewers will feel the love behind strict rules and realize how deeply parents care.

Outside of her films, Yeoh enjoys spending time with her granddaughter. Six-year-old Raelyn doesn’t watch much TV yet, so Michelle Yeoh entertains her with songs and stories. However, when Raelyn saw Yeoh in her white-haired look as Madame Morrible in Wicked, she was shocked. “She said, ‘Ugh, why is your hair white? I don’t like it!’” Yeoh recalls with a laugh, admitting that her granddaughter sometimes gets confused seeing her in such unusual roles.

Yeoh’s journey to stardom was not easy. Trained as a ballerina, she had to give up dancing after a serious injury. Instead of giving up on her dreams, she turned to acting, beginning her career in commercials and later moving into films. She credits her teachers and mentors for guiding her and helping her find a new path when ballet was no longer possible.

Today, Yeoh continues to inspire audiences with her strength, talent, and resilience, while also cherishing her role as a loving grandmother whose biggest fan and critic is little Raelyn.
