Anurag Kashyap Slams Producer Vijay Subramaniam for Backing AI-Generated Film Chiranjeevi Hanuman

The announcement of an AI-generated film Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal has stirred debate in the film industry. The project, promoted as “Made in AI” and “Made in India,” is set for release on Hanuman Jayanti 2026. However, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has strongly criticised the producer, Vijay Subramaniam, for supporting this kind of project while also leading an artists’ agency.

Anurag Kashyap Slams Producer Over AI Film

On Tuesday, Anurag Kashyap posted a screenshot of the film’s announcement on Instagram. He pointed out Vijay Subramaniam’s name in the credits and questioned his role. According to Kashyap, someone who runs Collective Artists Network, a company that represents actors, writers, and directors, should not be backing a film made entirely with artificial intelligence.

In his note, Anurag Kashyap wrote that agencies like this are only interested in profits. He claimed that when actors or creators fail to make enough money for them, agencies turn to AI projects. He also warned artists to reconsider working with such agencies, stating that supporting AI over human talent shows a lack of respect for creators.

Anurag Kashyap ended his statement by saying Vijay “should be in the gutter” and accused him of promoting a future where spineless and cowardly artists will accept being replaced by AI.

Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane also commented on the matter. Sharing the film’s poster on his Instagram stories, he wrote sarcastically, “And so it begins… Who needs writers and directors when it’s ‘Made in AI’?” His remark reflected the growing concern among filmmakers that AI could threaten the importance of human creativity.

Vijay Subramaniam, Founder and Group CEO of Collective Artists Network, defended the project. In a press statement, he said the film offers a chance to “reimagine cultural storytelling” by blending tradition with innovation. He added that the team would maintain transparency about AI’s role in the creative process.

The controversy highlights a larger discussion in the entertainment world. While technology can bring new possibilities, many fear that using AI to fully create films could harm opportunities for writers, directors, and actors. The clash between tradition and innovation is likely to grow as more AI-generated projects enter the market.
