The movie tells the story of Eleanor Morgenstein, a 94-year-old woman who faces a heartbreaking loss. After this, she begins telling a story that soon takes on a dangerous and unpredictable life of its own. The film is described as a mix of comedy and emotion, exploring how the stories we hear eventually become the stories we tell.

June Squibb plays Eleanor, with a cast that also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Erin Kellyman, and Jessica Hecht. The script is written by Tory Kamen, and Johansson is also one of the producers. The movie is set to release in theatres on September 26, 2025, and will have a runtime of 98 minutes.

Although Johansson is now working behind the camera, she has been busy acting in other projects too. She recently joined the Jurassic World Rebirth film alongside Mahershala Ali and Rupert Friend. She also appeared in Wes Anderson’s movies Asteroid City and The Phoenician Scheme, and reunited with her Avengers co-star Chris Hemsworth for Transformers One. Last year, she starred in the romantic comedy Fly Me to the Moon with Channing Tatum, although the film didn’t do well at the box office.

Fans still wonder if Scarlett Johansson will ever return to Marvel. She has said she feels Natasha Romanoff’s story ended perfectly, but with some of her original Avengers co-stars returning for Doomsday, there’s speculation she could come back in some form. Earlier this year, she was supposed to be a producer on Thunderbolts, but her credit was removed after she was not involved in its production.

With Eleanor the Great, Scarlett Johansson is beginning a new chapter in her career. The trailer suggests a heartwarming yet thought-provoking film that mixes humor, loss, and the power of storytelling.
