Aamir Khan has returned to the big screen after almost three years with his new film Sitaare Zameen Par. The film released on June 20, 2025, and marked his comeback after the 2022 movie Laal Singh Chaddha. However, the film did not meet the high expectations at the box office on its first day. According to early estimates reported by Sacnilk.com, Sitaare Zameen Par earned ₹11.50 crore nett in India on Day 1. This number is slightly lower than Laal Singh Chaddha, which had earned ₹11.7 crore on its opening day.

The film had an average performance in theatres with around 21.43% overall occupancy in Hindi cinemas. Morning and afternoon shows had a lower response, but the evening shows saw a slight improvement in attendance. Despite being Aamir Khan’s much-awaited comeback, the film could not beat the opening of other big films like Salman Khan’s Sikandar, which earned ₹26 crore on Day 1.

Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports drama and is seen as a spiritual sequel to the 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. It is directed by RS Prasanna and features Aamir Khan as a basketball coach who trains a team of specially-abled youngsters. The film introduces ten new actors in key roles and is inspired by the Spanish movie Campeones.
Although the box office numbers were not as strong, early reviews say that the film has a lot of heart. Critics noted that the film may not shine as brightly as its predecessor but still delivers a touching story. Watching it in a packed theatre adds to the emotional experience, with moments of laughter, silence, and inspiration.
