Bollywood actor Adi Irani, known for his role in Baazigar, recently shared his experience of losing a part in the 2015 film Dil Dhadakne Do. In an interview, he revealed that he had auditioned for a role in the movie but was not informed when director Zoya Akhtar decided to cast someone else instead. He called this behavior unprofessional and expressed disappointment over how things were handled.
Adi Irani Calls Zoya Akhtar Unprofessional
Adi Irani explained that he was initially in talks for a role in the film and had even auditioned. However, he later discovered that Parmeet Sethi had been selected instead. He claimed that Zoya Akhtar did not personally inform him about the decision and that he only found out about the change much later. He felt that the industry lacks honesty, as many filmmakers avoid direct communication when making such decisions.

He also mentioned that during the shooting of Welcome Back, Anil Kapoor asked him if he had finalized his part in Dil Dhadakne Do. At that time, he still believed he was being considered, but later realized that he had been replaced. He recalled that he had even discussed with Zoya Akhtar about wanting a role with fewer scenes but more impact. However, instead of giving him clarity, she told him she would call if there was a suitable role for him. He never received that call.
Adi Irani pointed out that directors today often prefer working with their close friends and familiar actors rather than giving opportunities to others. He criticized this practice and said that the industry is now focused more on financial gains than on creating films with emotional depth.
Despite his disappointment, he acknowledged that it is difficult for filmmakers to directly inform actors when they are dropped from a project. He said that many people in the industry prefer to be diplomatic rather than open and honest about such decisions.
