‘The Day of the Jackal’ Becomes Peacock’s Most-Watched Original Drama Series After 75 Days

The Day of the Jackal

Peacock’s political thriller The Day of the Jackal, starring Eddie Redmayne, has become the most-watched original drama series on the platform. NBCUniversal recently announced this milestone, confirming that the show continues to gain popularity even after 75 days of its release.

‘The Day of the Jackal’ Hits Streaming Milestone

The series has also been a massive success on Sky, marking the biggest new series launch ever on the platform. While NBCUniversal did not reveal exact viewership numbers, it was previously reported that the first episode reached 4.6 million viewers on Sky within its first 28 days. The show also made it into the top 10 streaming original dramas in the U.S. during its debut week on November 14, according to Nielsen. However, it did not meet the 320 million streaming minute threshold to be included in Nielsen’s overall streaming originals list.

Despite not making the overall rankings, the series has shown strong viewer retention. Unlike many streaming shows that lose momentum over time, The Day of the Jackal has continued to attract new audiences. This growing success led Peacock and Sky to renew the show for a second season shortly after the Season 1 finale.

Based on Frederick Forsyth’s novel, the series follows a skilled and elusive assassin known as the Jackal, played by Redmayne. He is a contract killer who operates for the highest bidder, but after his latest assignment, he finds himself being hunted. A determined British intelligence officer, played by Lashana Lynch, sets out to track him down in a high-stakes chase across Europe. The thrilling storyline, combined with intense action sequences and powerful performances, has made the series a hit among viewers.

The show features a talented cast, including Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, and Sule Rimi. With its gripping plot and strong character development, The Day of the Jackal has proven to be one of Peacock’s biggest successes.
