Rupert Murdoch Sells NYC Penthouse at Huge $20 Million Loss After Price Drops

Rupert Murdoch Sells NYC Penthouse

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch recently sold his luxurious penthouse in Manhattan’s Flatiron District for $23.8 million. This is a significant loss compared to the $43 million he paid for it in 2014. When he first listed the property for sale two years ago, the asking price was $62 million, but he struggled to find a buyer. Over time, he lowered the price multiple times, finally settling for much less than even its last listed price of $28 million.

The penthouse is located in the One Madison skyscraper and spans three floors—58th, 59th, and 60th. It offers more than 7,100 square feet of space and features floor-to-ceiling windows with breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. One of the standout features is the double-height Great Room, which has soaring ceilings and a large 586-square-foot terrace, perfect for entertaining. The home also includes a formal dining room, a gourmet kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, a library, and a powder room.

The building itself provides exclusive amenities through its private “One Club.” Residents can enjoy an indoor swimming pool, a steam room, a fitness center, and social lounges. Its prime location makes it one of the most desirable addresses in the world.

Despite its luxury and high-profile owner, selling the penthouse proved to be a challenge. Murdoch had to accept a considerable loss on the property, showing that even billionaires can struggle in the real estate market. However, given his vast wealth, this loss is unlikely to affect him significantly.
