Mukesh Khanna, a well-known actor, found himself at the center of controversy after criticizing Sonakshi Sinha’s knowledge of the Ramayana in 2019. He had blamed her father, Shatrughan Sinha, for her inability to answer a question about the ancient text during her appearance on the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. The actress didn’t take kindly to his comments and responded angrily on her social media.
Mukesh Khanna Clarifies Sonakshi Comments
In a recent interview with News9, Khanna addressed the issue, expressing surprise at the prolonged response from Sonakshi. He clarified that his comments were not meant to harm her or her father, with whom he maintains a cordial relationship. He emphasized that his criticism was directed at the current generation, often referred to as ‘Gen Z’, who, according to him, rely too heavily on platforms like Wikipedia and YouTube for knowledge, rather than reading or studying traditional texts.

Mukesh Khanna explained that he had used Sonakshi’s situation to make a broader point about educating the younger generation, as well as parents and children, on the importance of historical and cultural knowledge. He also stressed that there was no malicious intention behind his remarks.
Sonakshi, in her Instagram stories, expressed her frustration, urging Khanna to let go of the incident from years ago. She accused him of seeking publicity by attacking her and her family. Sonakshi’s father, Shatrughan Sinha, quickly came to her defense, questioning what qualified Khanna to criticize her knowledge of the Ramayana. He proudly stated that his daughter achieved success on her own without his direct involvement in her career and that not knowing one question about the Ramayana does not diminish her as a good Hindu or a capable person.
This exchange has sparked a heated debate about public figures’ opinions on each other’s lives, highlighting how the intersection of personal relationships and professional criticism can quickly turn into public conflict.
