Harinder Sikka Regrets Choosing Meghna Gulzar For Alia Bhatt’s Raazi Adaptation Calls It Biggest Mistake

In a surprising statement, author Harinder Sikka has openly expressed regret over the film adaptation of his novel Calling Sehmat, which inspired the 2018 Bollywood film Raazi. The film starred Alia Bhatt and was directed by Meghna Gulzar.

What Harinder Sikka Said About Raazi

Harinder Sikka recently shared his thoughts on social media, calling his decision to appoint Meghna Gulzar as director his “biggest mistake.” He explained that even though he had received warnings earlier, he did not expect that the film would change the core message of his story.

According to Sikka, the movie failed to capture the true spirit of the protagonist from his book. He believes that certain ideological differences affected how the story was shown on screen, which diluted the original impact of Calling Sehmat.

About the Story of Calling Sehmat

The novel Calling Sehmat is based on a real-life story of an Indian spy who marries into a Pakistani military family to pass on crucial information to India. It is set during the time leading up to the Indo-Pak war of 1971.

In the film Raazi, Alia Bhatt played the role of the undercover agent, while Vicky Kaushal portrayed her husband. The film was appreciated for its emotional storytelling and performances, but Sikka now feels it did not fully represent his original vision.

Sikka Praises His Book’s Global Impact

Despite his criticism of the film, Harinder Sikka remains proud of his book. He shared that Calling Sehmat continues to be popular even after many years and is still read by people around the world.

Link to Dhurandhar 2 Rumours

Sikka’s statement comes at a time when films like Dhurandhar 2 are gaining attention for showcasing strong national themes. He hinted that such films give audiences a closer look at the kind of stories he originally intended to tell.

Harinder Sikka also revealed that more of his books are being worked on for future projects. He believes that these upcoming adaptations will present the “complete truth” and stay closer to his original writing.

This statement has once again brought Raazi into the spotlight, raising questions about how closely films should follow their source material.
