Bollywood actress Yami Gautam recently spoke out after an Instagram reel drew attention online. The reel appeared to mock Kriti Sanon’s recent Best Actress award, and Yami’s “like” on the post caused a stir. She quickly clarified that the like was unintentional and that she had no intention of taking a dig at Kriti Sanon or questioning her win.
Yami explained that she gets tagged in numerous posts every day, and sometimes likes happen by accident. She stressed that she has always focused on her work rather than using social media for attention.
Yami Gautam’s Official Statement
In her statement, Yami wrote, “It has come to my notice that I apparently ‘liked’ a reel that is condescending toward another actor. We get tagged in multiple things every day, and this appeared during an award-function reference like any other tag. It isn’t true and was definitely not done consciously; if anything, it may have been clicked accidentally.”
She further added, “Never in my life have I resorted to cheap PR tactics. I have always focused on my work and moved on.” The actress emphasized that she does not have a PR team managing her social media, and she has always been clear about her stance on awards and recognition.

Background of the Instagram Reel
The reel combined footage of Kriti Sanon celebrating her Best Actress award with an older interview of Yami Gautam in which she spoke about validation and awards. In the interview, Yami said, “You try everything, and it still doesn’t work. So, I’ve stopped seeking any kind of validation. If I get that award, then I am a good actress, and otherwise, I’m not. Nothing like that.”
The reel ended with the question, “Is it fair?” implying that Kriti’s win over Yami could be debated. Once the video gained attention, users noticed Yami had liked it, which intensified online discussions.
Yami Gautam Focuses on Work
Yami Gautam clarified that she had no intention to criticize Kriti Sanon and requested that her professional reputation be respected. She added, “In the world of clickbait, it’s tempting for even dignified social media portals to harp on this and turn it into coffee-table gossip. But I would hope they would consider that I have earned a better reputation than that.”
