Filmmaker Mani Shankar’s son, Prem Shankar, has been arrested in Hyderabad following an incident involving traffic obstruction and an alleged altercation with police officials. The incident reportedly took place within the limits of the Banjara Hills Police Station and later led to legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The arrest happened on Wednesday after police completed initial procedures related to the case.
Electric vehicle breakdown led to traffic congestion
The issue began when Prem Shankar was driving his electric vehicle on Road No. 2 in Banjara Hills. His car reportedly ran out of battery near a busy junction. As the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road, it caused heavy traffic congestion in the area.
With vehicles lining up behind the stalled car, local authorities were alerted. A woman constable and a home guard reached the spot to manage the situation and help clear the traffic.
Alleged argument with police officials
During the attempt to move the vehicle and restore traffic flow, an argument reportedly broke out between Prem Shankar and the officials present at the spot. He allegedly refused to cooperate when asked to shift the vehicle from the road.

When the constable and home guard tried to intervene and convince him to allow the car to be moved, he allegedly pushed the home guard. This further delayed the clearing of the traffic jam and escalated the situation.
Police later managed to remove him from the vehicle and shift the car away from the junction to ease congestion. After the vehicle was moved, Prem Shankar reportedly left the scene.
Case registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Following the incident, police registered a case against Prem Shankar under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for obstructing public servants while performing their duty and for assault. After reviewing the matter, officials proceeded with his arrest. Authorities have stated that further legal procedures are currently underway.
