The much-awaited comedy film Hera Pheri 3 has hit a major roadblock. Director Priyadarshan has confirmed that the film will not go on floors this year. The delay is due to ongoing legal issues related to the film and music rights.
For months, there was excitement around the return of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal in the third part of the popular franchise. However, the project is now on hold until the legal matters are sorted out.
Priyadarshan Speaks On Rights Issue
Priyadarshan openly addressed the situation and explained that different parties are claiming ownership of the film and its music. Some individuals say they hold the film rights, while others claim they own the music rights. Until there is clarity on who legally controls what, the team cannot move ahead with production.
He clearly stated that Hera Pheri 3 will “definitely not” begin shooting this year. The makers want to resolve every issue properly before starting work on such a big franchise.
Music rights have also become a key point of dispute, with Bhushan Kumar publicly claiming ownership. These disagreements have slowed down the process significantly.
Complications Around Franchise Rights
The issue does not end with music rights. Seven Arts International has reportedly raised concerns about the original agreement of the first Hera Pheri film. The company claims that the rights held by producer Firoz Nadiadwala were limited to the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking.
They have questioned how the sequel Phir Hera Pheri was made and how the franchise rights were later transferred to Akshay Kumar’s production house. These legal arguments have made the situation even more complicated. Because of these disputes, all official plans for Hera Pheri 3 are currently paused.
Paresh Rawal And Akshay Kumar Controversy
The delays also affected the cast at one point. Paresh Rawal had briefly stepped away from the project, leading to speculation about differences within the team. There were reports that Akshay Kumar had filed a legal case seeking damages when Rawal exited.

However, that matter has now been resolved. Priyadarshan addressed rumours of any lasting tension, saying that in cinema, professional differences do not always mean permanent fallout. He hinted that people can disagree and still work together again.
Future Of The Hera Pheri Franchise
The Hera Pheri franchise began in 2000 and became one of Bollywood’s most loved comedy series. The chemistry between Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal remains iconic even today.
Fans were hoping to see the trio reunite under Priyadarshan’s direction once again. But for now, the future of Hera Pheri 3 depends completely on the outcome of the legal disputes. Until the rights issues are cleared, the laughter-filled comeback of Raju, Shyam and Baburao will have to wait.
