Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has shared strong views about the upcoming box office clash between Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups and Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge. Both big-budget films are set to release on March 19, and the clash has already become a major talking point in Bollywood.
Ram Gopal Varma, also known as RGV, said that this is not a fight between North and South cinema. Instead, he believes it is a clash of two different filmmaking styles and two ways of treating the audience.
Ram Gopal Varma Says It’s About Respecting the Audience
In his detailed note, RGV explained that the real difference between Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic lies in how they look at viewers. He praised Dhurandhar for respecting the intelligence of the audience. At the same time, he criticised films that, in his opinion, rely too much on hero worship and loud presentation.
He described the clash as a battle between two cinematic cultures. One focuses on strong storytelling and grounded action. The other, he suggested, depends more on larger-than-life visuals and dramatic hero entries.
RGV made it clear that for him, this is about creative choices, not about regional pride.
Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic: Two Big Films, Two Styles
Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, is a spy thriller starring Ranveer Singh. The film continues the story from the 2025 hit Dhurandhar. It also features Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun. The sequel is expected to explore the backstory of Ranveer’s character and take the action to a higher level.
On the other hand, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups stars Yash in the lead role. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film promises a dark and intense story. It also features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. This marks Yash’s first release after the massive success of the KGF franchise.

Both films are mounted on a grand scale and aim to attract audiences across India.
Ram Gopal Varma’s Hope for Indian Cinema
While sharing his thoughts, Ram Gopal Varma said his comments come from his hope for Indian cinema. He wants filmmakers to challenge viewers with strong writing and meaningful storytelling.
He pointed out that big budgets and heavy visual effects alone do not define great cinema. For him, the emotional impact and depth of characters matter more.
With March 19 approaching, the spotlight is now firmly on Toxic and Dhurandhar 2. Whether audiences choose high-voltage spectacle or intense spy drama, this box office clash is set to be one of the biggest moments of the year in Bollywood.
