The Kerala High Court has issued notices to the makers of The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Union government over a plea challenging the film’s certification. The sequel is scheduled to release on February 27, but its clearance has now come under legal scrutiny.

The court has asked all the respondents to file their replies and has posted the matter for further hearing on February 24. This development comes just days before the film’s planned theatrical release.
Why The Certification Of The Kerala Story 2 Is Being Challenged
The plea was filed by a resident of Kannur, who questioned the CBFC’s decision to grant certification to the film. The petition argues that the approval was given without properly examining the possible impact of the movie under the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
The petitioner has raised objections to the film’s teaser and trailer. He claims that the narrative shown in the promotional material links serious issues like terrorism and forced conversion to Kerala through its title and presentation.
The plea also seeks a review of the film’s title, saying it could create a negative image of the state and its people.
Concerns Over Public Order And Regional Harmony
One of the main arguments in the petition is that the portrayal in The Kerala Story 2 could disturb public order and lead to regional or communal tension. The petitioner has stated that certain statements in the teaser and trailer may create strong reactions and law and order concerns.

The controversy around the first part of The Kerala Story has also been mentioned in the plea. The petitioner has said that concerns were raised earlier as well, and believes similar issues may arise with the sequel.
Because of this, the plea urges the court to suspend the release of the film until the matter is fully examined.
What Relief Has Been Sought?
The petitioner has asked the High Court to quash the certification granted by the CBFC. He has also requested suitable modifications in the film, including reconsideration of its title and the addition of disclaimers to prevent regional vilification.
For now, the film’s release date remains February 27. However, the final decision will depend on the court’s hearing scheduled on February 24.
The case has once again placed The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond in the spotlight, even before it reaches cinemas. The coming days will be crucial for the makers as they await the court’s next move.
