Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Aayush Sharma have reportedly received online threats, raising concerns over their safety. The Mumbai Crime Branch has confirmed that investigators suspect links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has been involved in previous high-profile incidents targeting film personalities.
Threats to Aayush Sharma
Actor Aayush Sharma, who is also Salman Khan’s brother-in-law, received a threatening email sent through ProtonMail, an encrypted email service that hides the sender’s identity. Police said the email claimed an association with the Bishnoi gang. By using the secure platform, the sender attempted to avoid conventional tracing, making it difficult for authorities to immediately identify them.
Threats to Ranveer Singh
Days before Aayush’s threat, Ranveer Singh received an extortion threat through a WhatsApp voice note sent to his manager. Authorities confirmed that the sender used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to conceal their location and network identity. Mumbai Police have recorded statements from Ranveer Singh’s manager as part of the ongoing investigation.

Connection with Previous Incidents
The fresh threats come after the January 31, 2024, firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence, for which the Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility. Police believe the new threats may be part of a coordinated attempt to intimidate prominent figures in the Bollywood industry.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Mumbai Crime Branch has invoked sections of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against multiple accused, suspected of involvement in a criminal network. Five accused were presented before a special MCOCA court and remanded to police custody until February 17, 2026.
During the proceedings, the defense questioned claims regarding the supply of weapons by Praveen Lonkar, who has been in jail in connection with the Baba Siddique murder case. Investigators stated that the accused used the Signal app to communicate secretly and are now trying to retrieve deleted chat records.
Alleged Involvement of Bishnoi Gang Members
Authorities allege that Asaram Fasle, previously a garage mechanic for the Bishnoi gang, supplied weapons following instructions from Shubham Lonkar, suspected mastermind behind both the Baba Siddique murder and the Rohit Shetty firing case. Police continue to investigate the links between these activities and the recent threats against Ranveer Singh and Aayush Sharma.
The safety of Bollywood actors remains a priority as the Mumbai Crime Branch investigates these threats. While the case develops, Ranveer Singh and Aayush Sharma continue to work in films, and authorities remain alert to prevent any escalation. The involvement of the Bishnoi gang highlights ongoing concerns about organized crime targeting high-profile figures in the Indian film industry.
