Hong Kong actors Carina Lau and Tony Leung have been together for almost four decades, and their relationship remains strong. They met while acting in the Hong Kong drama The Clones (1984), began dating in 1989, and married in Bhutan in 2008 after 19 years together. She shared that over the years, their ways of interacting have changed naturally. Carina emphasized that a strong relationship is about compromise and understanding, acknowledging that no partnership is perfect but that mutual respect helps them stay together.
One challenge Carina mentioned was Tony’s introverted nature, especially in social settings. For many years, he refused to have meals with her, her friends, or their families, which made her unhappy. However, she did not force him, respecting his comfort. Over time, Tony became more willing to attend such gatherings, showing growth and adaptation in their marriage as they both aged.
Carina also plays an important role in managing Tony’s professional decisions. She encouraged him to take roles he initially felt were unsuitable, such as in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). Carina describes herself as a “handyman” rather than a manager, offering advice without expecting any commission. She respects his decisions and emphasizes that her guidance is meant to help, not pressure him.
