Scott Adams became widely known in the 1990s for Dilbert, a comic strip that humorously showed office life and corporate culture. The main character, Dilbert, was an engineer dealing with bad bosses, pointless meetings, and confusing workplace rules. Millions of readers connected with the strip because it reflected their daily work struggles. At its peak, Dilbert appeared in nearly 2,000 newspapers worldwide and was turned into books, merchandise, and an animated TV show.
Before becoming a full-time cartoonist, Adams worked in banks and telecom companies, which inspired his work. He held an MBA degree from the University of California, Berkeley. However, over the years, Adams became more controversial. Many newspapers stopped publishing Dilbert in 2023 after he made racist remarks during a YouTube livestream. His comments about Black Americans caused strong backlash, leading to the end of his newspaper syndication career.
Adams was also known for his strong support of former U.S. President Donald Trump. He publicly backed Trump from 2015 and even wrote a book praising Trump’s communication style. Adams claimed that supporting Trump cost him his social life, reputation, and career. Despite criticism, he continued sharing political views through online platforms and rebuilt Dilbert as a paid subscription comic.
