Actor Timothy Busfield, best known for his role on The West Wing, is facing serious legal trouble after an arrest warrant was issued against him. Authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, say Busfield, 68, is accused of criminal sexual contact involving minors and child abuse. The allegations have shocked many fans, as Busfield has worked in television and film for decades and is also married to actress Melissa Gilbert.
Timothy Busfield Arrested Over Alleged Child Abuse Claims
According to police documents obtained by PEOPLE, the alleged incidents involved two siblings who were child actors on the FOX series The Cleaning Lady. Busfield joined the show as a director, and the children’s parents say he became close to their sons while working on set. One of the children later claimed the inappropriate behavior began when he was just seven years old. The identities of the children have been kept private.
The investigation started in November 2024 after a doctor reported concerns to police. The parents later told officers that their sons felt uncomfortable with Busfield’s behavior, which included tickling and physical contact described as inappropriate. Over time, the children reportedly shared more details with therapists and counselors, leading to further reports of emotional distress, nightmares, anxiety, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Police records state that the family raised concerns with production staff and studios, but they were told no action could be taken at the time. Later, Warner Bros. reportedly launched an internal investigation after receiving complaints. Busfield has denied wrongdoing and said any interaction with the children was playful and happened in front of others. However, investigators believe he had opportunities to be alone with at least one child during filming.
Busfield has not yet publicly commented on the arrest warrant. Representatives for FOX, Warner Bros., and Busfield did not immediately respond to media requests. The case is ongoing, and authorities stress that these are allegations, not convictions. If you suspect child abuse or know someone who may be a victim, experts urge contacting local authorities or the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline for confidential support and guidance.
