Jesy Nelson has shared heartbreaking news about her twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe. The former Little Mix singer revealed that her eight-month-old babies have been diagnosed with a rare and serious condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. Jesy posted an emotional video on Instagram, where she spoke honestly about the difficult journey her family has been facing. She welcomed the twins with her fiancé, Zion Foster, in May 2025, and since then, life has been full of unexpected challenges.
Jesy Nelson Reveals Twins’ Severe Muscular Disease Diagnosis
Jesy explained that her daughters were born premature at 31 weeks and spent time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Doctors had advised her not to compare them with other babies, as premature babies often reach milestones later. However, over time, Jesy noticed worrying signs. The twins were not moving their legs as much as expected and had trouble feeding properly. After months of hospital visits and tests, doctors confirmed that both babies have SMA Type 1, the most severe form of the disease.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy is a genetic condition that affects the nerves controlling muscle movement. Because of this, muscles become weak over time. Jesy shared that doctors told her the girls may never be able to walk or support their necks properly. She broke down while explaining how painful it was to hear that her daughters would likely be disabled. She also said that without treatment, SMA Type 1 can be life-threatening at a very young age.
Despite the devastating news, Jesy expressed deep gratitude that her daughters were diagnosed in time to receive treatment. She shared that she now has to use breathing machines and provide medical care that no parent ever expects to give their child. She described the past few months as the most heartbreaking time of her life and admitted she is grieving the future she once imagined for her children.

Still, Jesy remains hopeful and strong. She said she truly believes her daughters will fight and overcome the odds with the right care and support. She shared her story to raise awareness and urged parents to seek medical help quickly if they notice unusual symptoms in their babies. Jesy ended her message with love and determination, reminding everyone that her girls are still here and that means everything.
