Spider-Man has always been one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). A big part of what makes him interesting is his secret identity. Peter Parker keeps his superhero life separate from his personal life to protect his loved ones. However, after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter’s secret identity no longer has the same importance, which could be a problem for future stories like Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Spider-Man’s Secret Identity Problem in Brand New Day
In No Way Home, Doctor Strange casts a spell that makes everyone forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. While this solved a major problem in the story, it also created a challenge. Peter now has no family or friends who know his identity, which means there is no real reason for him to keep it a secret. Aunt May has passed away, and his old friends do not remember him. Without people to protect, the tension of his double life is weakened.

The new film, Brand New Day, will need to address this problem to make Spider-Man’s secret identity meaningful again. One solution could be introducing new friends or loved ones for Peter. Characters like Gwen Stacy, Black Cat, or even Harry Osborn could return or be introduced. Having someone Peter cares about would make the stakes higher and justify why he keeps his identity hidden. This would also add emotional depth and personal conflict to the story.
Another way to address the issue could involve reversing part of the previous spell so Peter’s old friends remember him. However, this approach might feel like it undoes the story of No Way Home, which could disappoint fans. Instead, giving Peter new relationships or challenges would be a better way to maintain the tension and keep his secret identity relevant in the MCU.

Spider-Man’s secret identity has always been central to his character, and Brand New Day has the opportunity to restore that element. By introducing new people in Peter’s life or creating situations where his identity matters, the film can keep the classic tension fans expect. Whether it involves new friends, love interests, or other characters, the movie must show why Peter needs to hide who he is to make the story engaging and true to Spider-Man’s legacy.
