Bowen Yang, one of the most popular cast members of Saturday Night Live, is leaving the show after six successful years. According to reports from USA TODAY, Today.com, and People, the 35-year-old comedian will make his final appearance on the Dec. 20 episode during Season 51. His exit has surprised many fans, as it comes in the middle of the season. So far, neither Yang nor SNL has released an official statement about his departure.
Bowen Yang exits Saturday Night Live after 6 years
Yang joined Saturday Night Live in 2018, first working as a writer before becoming a featured player and later a full cast member. Over the years, he built a strong fan following thanks to his sharp humor, memorable characters, and bold performances. He quickly became one of the standout stars of the show and was praised for bringing fresh energy and representation to the long-running comedy series.

His sudden goodbye is part of a larger wave of cast changes at SNL. Earlier this year, Ego Nwodim and Heidi Gardner also announced they would not return for the new season, shocking viewers who had followed their work for years. Other cast members, including Michael Longfellow and Emil Wakim, have also exited. These departures mark a major transition period for the show as it continues into its 51st season.
Although leaving SNL is a big change, Bowen Yang’s future looks very bright. He has already made a name for himself outside the show, especially in movies. Yang appears in the highly anticipated films Wicked and Wicked: Part 2, which have boosted his profile in Hollywood. He is also well known for his podcast Las Culturistas, which he co-hosts with Matt Rodgers. The podcast has featured famous guests such as Reese Witherspoon and Michelle Obama and has grown into a popular brand with its own awards show on Bravo.

Yang’s final episode is especially meaningful because it will be hosted by his Wicked co-star Ariana Grande, with music by Cher. In a past interview, Yang said Cher was his dream SNL host, making his farewell even more special. While fans will miss him on Studio 8H, many are excited to see what Bowen Yang will do next.
