YouTube superstar Markiplier is bringing his first full-length movie, Iron Lung, to movie theaters in January 2026. After working on the project for nearly three years, the horror sci-fi film will finally be released at the end of January. Markiplier, whose real name is Mark Fischbach, did almost everything himself for the movie. He wrote the script, directed it, edited it, produced it, paid for it, and also stars in it. The film is based on the popular 2022 indie horror game created by David Szymanski.
Markiplier’s Horror Film Iron Lung Hits Theaters
Iron Lung will be released in a unique way because Markiplier is handling the distribution on his own. Instead of using a big studio, he is working directly with independent movie theaters across the United States. For the opening weekend from January 30 to February 1, the movie is expected to play in 50 to 100 theaters. Tickets will go on sale starting Friday, the same day the film premieres in Los Angeles at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. There is no confirmed streaming release yet.

The movie takes place in a dark and dangerous future. The stars have vanished, planets are gone, and humanity is barely surviving. Scientists discover a strange ocean made entirely of blood on a distant moon. To explore it, they build a small submarine and lock a convicted prisoner inside. The mission is extremely risky, and if the person inside fails, another will replace them. This journey is the thirteenth attempt, making the situation even more unsettling and tense.
Along with Markiplier, the film features Caroline Rose Kaplan, Troy Baker, and Elsie Lovelock. Markiplier joked that the movie might hold a world record for the most blood used in any film. He also shared how challenging it was to take on so many roles alone, but said the effort was worth it to bring the story to life exactly how he imagined.
