Cendol tells the story of Sarah, an award-winning interior designer, who returns to Singapore to visit her mother, Daisy. During her visit, she reflects on how much has changed in her life, including her city and past relationships. Qi Yuwu also took on the task of writing the script, despite initially feeling inexperienced. He explained that writing the story himself allowed him to fully express his personal thoughts and emotions, which made the project more meaningful.

Casting was another important part of Qi’s journey. While considering several actors, he decided on Sharon Au for the lead role after encouragement from his wife, actress Joanne Peh. Sharon’s life experiences and ability to connect with the character of Sarah made her a perfect choice. Qi also emphasized professionalism during production, ensuring that all actors and crew members were fairly paid, reflecting his respect for the craft and the people involved.

The film uses the symbolic dessert cendol to represent cherished memories and the past that people hold in their hearts. Through subtle storytelling, it shows how people try to hold on to what they love, even as life changes around them. Qi believes that although life is full of inevitable losses, there is always hope, represented in the film by colorful balloons that symbolize freedom and letting go.

He emphasizes that life is a journey, and the experiences along the way give it purpose. By sharing this film, Qi invites viewers to reflect on their own past, present, and the memories they treasure.
