Paris Jackson, the 27-year-old daughter of the late pop legend Michael Jackson, recently spoke honestly about a painful part of her past. In a TikTok video shared on Monday, Paris revealed that she has a perforated septum, a hole in the cartilage between her nostrils which she said was caused by years of drug abuse. The singer and actress said she had “never actually talked about it” before and wanted to be open with her fans.

In the video, Paris Jackson explained that she makes a loud whistling sound when she breathes through her nose because of the hole. “That is because I have what is called a perforated septum,” she said while using her phone’s flashlight to show the damage. Paris admitted that her condition came from drug use, saying, “That is what you think it’s from. Don’t do drugs, kids. I don’t recommend it because it ruined my life.” Despite the damage, she said she doesn’t plan to get plastic surgery, as she has been almost six years sober and doesn’t want to take painkillers that could risk her recovery.

Paris Jackson went on to describe how she has lived with this issue since she was about 20 years old. She mentioned that it can be difficult, especially when recording music in the studio. Trying to keep the mood light, she jokingly shared that she can even “put a spaghetti noodle through [her] nose and move it back and forth.” Still, her message was serious; she wanted her followers to understand the lasting effects of addiction.
The American Horror Story and Swarm actress has been open about her past struggles with substance abuse and mental health. In January, she celebrated five years of sobriety from alcohol and heroin, posting a heartfelt message on Instagram about how sobriety allows her to truly live and enjoy life again. She wrote that being sober helps her “smile, make music, and feel the sun on [her] skin.”
