SRK’s Red Chillies Tells Delhi High Court Sameer Wankhede Was Already Facing Public Ridicule

Shah Rukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, has told the Delhi High Court that IRS officer Sameer Wankhede was already a subject of public criticism and ridicule long before the release of the Netflix series “Ba**ds of Bollywood.” The statement was made during a defamation case filed by Wankhede, who claimed that the series mocked and defamed him.

Red Chillies Says Wankhede Faced Public Ridicule

The web series, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, reportedly includes content that Wankhede believes directly targets him and his image. He argued that the show portrays him in a negative light, linking his name to the controversies surrounding the Aryan Khan drug case. Wankhede filed a defamation suit against Shah Rukh Khan’s company and Netflix, demanding that the show be removed and that his reputation be protected.

In response, Red Chillies told the court that Sameer Wankhede had already been discussed widely in the media due to his role in the 2021 Mumbai cruise drug case, in which Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested. The production house argued that Wankhede’s actions had already placed him in the public spotlight, leading to several news articles, debates, and social media criticism even before the series was released. Therefore, the company claimed that the show did not create any new defamation or harm to his reputation.

The Delhi High Court heard arguments from both sides and sought to understand whether the content of the Netflix series was based on public facts or crossed the line into personal defamation. Red Chillies also highlighted that the show is a fictionalized account inspired by real events and does not directly name or accuse Wankhede. They added that creative freedom should not be restricted unless there is clear evidence of intentional harm or false portrayal.

The case continues to attract public attention because it touches on the sensitive balance between freedom of expression and protection of individual reputation. The court’s decision in this matter could set an important precedent for future cases involving films and web series inspired by real-life incidents. For now, the streaming of “Ba**ds of Bollywood” remains unaffected until the court gives its final verdict.
