Actor Paresh Rawal’s upcoming courtroom drama The Taj Story has landed in controversy ahead of its release. The film, which explores the historical origins of the Taj Mahal, has been challenged by a BJP leader who claims it uses his petition without permission. The movie, directed by Tushar Amrish Goel, stars Paresh Rawal, Amruta Khanvilkar, Zakir Hussain, Namit Das, and Sneha Wagh, and is set to release on October 31, 2025.
BJP leader seeks ban on Paresh Rawal’s film
Rajneesh Singh, a BJP spokesperson from Ayodhya, filed a petition seeking to stop the release of The Taj Story. Singh stated that the film’s plot closely resembles his 2022 Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed before the Allahabad High Court, which sought permission to open 22 locked rooms inside the Taj Mahal. He had requested that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) investigate whether the monument was originally a temple. The High Court dismissed his petition in May 2022.
Singh has now complained to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), claiming that the filmmakers have used his petition’s subject matter without his consent. He alleged that the posters, dialogues, and storyline make direct and indirect references to his case, calling it a “misleading” and “unauthorized” use of his intellectual property. He further argued that such a portrayal could hurt religious sentiments and interfere with ongoing judicial matters.

In his statement, Singh requested an immediate ban on the film’s release, screening, and promotional activities until a proper review is conducted. He also urged authorities to verify whether any parts of the film’s script were taken from his petition or related materials without permission. He warned that releasing the film in its current form could cause unnecessary public tension over sensitive historical and religious issues.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court refused to grant an urgent hearing for the plea seeking a ban on The Taj Story. The court stated that the matter would be taken up the following day. Despite the controversy, the makers continue to prepare for the film’s theatrical release. With Paresh Rawal in the lead, The Taj Story promises to deliver an intense courtroom drama inspired by historical debates surrounding one of India’s most iconic monuments.
