The Delhi High Court has granted relief to popular Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu after he complained that his name, image, and voice were being misused online through Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora passed an interim order on October 15, 2025, protecting the singer’s personality and publicity rights.
Delhi High Court Protects Kumar Sanu’s Identity
Kumar Sanu had filed a case against several major platforms such as Google, Meta, Amazon, and Flipkart. He said that many fake videos, images, and audio clips using his voice and likeness were being created and shared without his permission. These AI-generated materials were being used for commercial purposes such as promoting products or creating content for profit which the singer said was unfair and misleading for his fans.
The High Court agreed with Kumar Sanu’s argument and ordered that no one can use his name, image, likeness, voice, or any part of his personality to make or promote content without his consent. The court specifically mentioned that AI-based technologies like voice cloning, face morphing, GIFs, and machine learning tools cannot be used to imitate him, whether to earn money or for any other purpose.
This order is considered an important step in protecting celebrities’ rights in the digital age. With the rapid growth of AI-generated content, there is a growing risk that artists, actors, and public figures may lose control over their own identities. Experts believe that this case could become a landmark example for future legal battles involving deepfakes and AI misuse.

Kumar Sanu, known for his iconic songs from the 1990s, expressed relief after the verdict. He said that artists work hard to build their identity, and using AI to copy their voice or face without permission is unethical. The court’s decision, according to legal experts, sends a strong message that digital creativity must respect personal rights and that AI cannot be used to violate someone’s identity or reputation.
