The much-awaited horror-comedy “Thamma”, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, had a fantastic start at the box office on its opening day. Released across India on Tuesday, the film collected ₹25.11 crore domestically, according to the production company Maddock Films. This makes it one of the strongest openings of the year for a horror-comedy.

“Thamma” is the fifth installment in the popular Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, which includes successful films like Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2. The film is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and written by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Falara. It is produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, under the Maddock Films banner.

The story follows Alok Goyal, a journalist whose life changes dramatically after a mysterious encounter with Tadaka, a supernatural woman who saves him during a trek in the mountains. Alok then transforms into a vampire-like being called Betaal and must face Yakshasan, an ancient Betaal who has been chained for centuries and now seeks power over the world. The film also stars Paresh Rawal and Geeta Agarwal Sharma in supporting roles, adding depth to the story.
