Director Shanmugam Muthusamy is making headlines ahead of the release of his new film Diesel, which is set to hit screens on October 17, 2025. The movie, written and directed by him, explores a petrol and diesel scam and exposes the mafia behind it. The story is inspired by real-life incidents that the director personally investigated over a long period.
Director Shanmugam Threatened Over Upcoming Film Diesel
Speaking at a pre-release event, Shanmugam shared that the idea for the film came from an incident he observed while traveling on a highway. He noticed some teenagers stealing large quantities of petrol and diesel from a tanker lorry parked at a motel. Curious to know more, he started investigating the matter, and what he discovered shocked him. As he dug deeper, he revealed that some individuals even threatened his life to stop him from collecting information about the scam.
Shanmugam said he decided to make the film because the scam directly affects ordinary people. A small increase in petrol or diesel prices can impact monthly budgets by thousands of rupees. He wanted the public to understand who benefits from these scams and how it affects common citizens.

The film features Harish Kalyan and Athulya Ravi in lead roles, along with a strong supporting cast including Vinay Rai, Sachin Kedhekar, Sai Kumar, Ananya, Karunaas, Bose Venkat, Kaali Venkat, and many others. Produced by Third Eye Entertainment, the movie’s music is composed by Dhibu Ninan Thomas, cinematography is handled by M.S. Prabhu and Richard M. Nathan, and editing is by San Lokesh.
