Barkha Madan, once a bright star in Bollywood, surprised everyone by leaving the film industry at the peak of her career to embrace a life of spirituality. Today, she lives in the mountains as a Buddhist monk, leading a simple and peaceful life, far from the glamour and fame she once knew.
Barkha Madan Leaves Bollywood, Becomes Monk
Barkha’s journey began with beauty pageants. In 1994, she participated in Miss India, competing alongside stars like Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai. She won the title of Miss Tourism India and later secured third place in an international pageant held in Malaysia. Her confidence and charm helped her enter the modeling world, where she soon gained recognition.
She made her Bollywood debut in 1996 with the blockbuster “Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi”, starring alongside Akshay Kumar, Rekha, and Raveena Tandon. Her performance in Ram Gopal Varma’s 2003 horror film “Bhoot” as Manjeet left audiences impressed. Barkha also worked in television shows like “Nyay”, “1857 Kranti” (where she portrayed Rani Lakshmibai), and “Saat Phere”. Despite her rising fame, Barkha felt a growing emptiness within her heart.
The more successful she became, the more she questioned life’s true purpose. Fame, money, and recognition could not fill the void she felt inside. She was inspired by the teachings of the Dalai Lama and gradually began practicing meditation and spiritual reading. These teachings transformed her outlook on life, helping her focus on inner peace rather than external achievements.
