Rajat Bedi comes from a family with a strong film and literary background. His grandfather, Rajinder Singh Bedi, was a famous Urdu writer and director who worked with legendary actors like Prithviraj Kapoor and Dharmendra. His father, Narendra Bedi, started his career as an assistant to Raj Kapoor and directed successful films like Benaam, Adalat, and Jawani Diwani. Despite this legacy, Rajat said the film industry could be “very unforgiving.”

He also talked about starting his career. After a few years out of the industry following his father’s death, Rajat’s mother encouraged him to work in films. She helped him get a position assisting director Ramesh Sippy. Rajat worked on the film Zamaana Deewana, which starred Shah Rukh Khan. During this time, he became close to Shah Rukh Khan, who gave him the nickname “Tiger” because of his energetic and aggressive personality on set.
