The Kannada film Kantara Chapter 1, starring Rishab Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth, has created a huge milestone at the box office. Released recently, the film has now crossed ₹300 crore worldwide in just four days, making it one of the biggest successes for the Kannada film industry.
Kantara Chapter 1 Becomes Kannada Cinema Hit
On its fourth day, Kantara Chapter 1 earned ₹61 crore net in India alone, taking the domestic total to ₹223.25 crore net (₹268 crore gross). This makes it the second-biggest opening weekend for any Kannada film, just behind KGF Chapter 2, which earned ₹380 crore domestically in 2022.

The film has also performed strongly overseas. Trade analysts estimate that it earned over $6 million internationally during the weekend. Combining domestic and international earnings, the worldwide total reached ₹325 crore after four days.
In this short span, Kantara Chapter 1 has already surpassed many recent hits, including Sitaare Zameen Par (₹266 crore) and Lokah Chapter 1 (₹290 crore). It has also overtaken the lifetime collections of HanuMan (₹298 crore) and the first KGF Chapter 1 (₹248 crore), making it the third-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, behind KGF Chapter 2 (₹1,248 crore) and KGF Chapter 1 (₹400 crore). Experts predict that it may even cross its predecessor in the opening week.
Kantara Chapter 1 is a period action drama set a thousand years before the events of the first film. Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the movie features him in the lead role along with Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah. The film has been praised for its story, performances, direction, and music, earning glowing reviews from both critics and audiences.
