Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan Sue YouTube for ₹4 Crore Over AI Deepfake Videos

Bollywood stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan have taken legal action against YouTube and its parent company, Google, seeking damages of ₹4 crore (around $450,000). The lawsuit comes after several AI-generated deepfake videos of the couple appeared on the platform. These videos allegedly misuse their images and voices in false and explicit ways.

The Bachchans filed their petition on September 6, 2025, asking the court to remove all videos that infringe on their rights. They also want YouTube to stop their content from being used to train AI models. The actors expressed concern that AI-generated videos could spread quickly and be replicated in new forms if not controlled.

The couple’s legal action specifically targets a YouTube channel called AI Bollywood Ishq, which reportedly hosts over 259 manipulated videos with more than 16.5 million views. Some of these videos show Aishwarya and Salman Khan in fabricated situations, while others depict Abhishek in unrealistic or inappropriate scenes. The Bachchans argue that allowing such content can harm their reputation and privacy.

In their petition, the actors highlighted the dangers of AI misuse, saying that content used to train AI models could create more fake videos. They emphasized that even if the original video is removed, AI-trained models could reproduce the misuse repeatedly. They also questioned YouTube’s current policy that allows creators to permit their videos for AI training, calling it risky and potentially harmful.

India currently does not have strong laws to protect “personality rights,” unlike some countries like the United States. Over the years, a few Bollywood celebrities have filed cases to protect their image and reputation. The Bachchans’ case is considered one of the most significant legal actions in India involving celebrities and AI-generated content.
