A tragic fire accident in Rajasthan’s Kota city claimed the lives of two young boys on Sunday. According to police, the incident happened around 2 am while the siblings were alone at home. Their father, Jitendra Sharma, who works as a coaching centre teacher, was attending a bhajan event, and their mother, Rita Sharma, an actor, was in Mumbai.
The fire reportedly started in the drawing room of their flat on the fourth floor of Deepshree Building. Officials suspect a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. The flames did not spread to the bedrooms, but heavy smoke filled the flat. The children, who were asleep, are believed to have died due to suffocation from the smoke.
Neighbours noticed smoke coming from the flat and rushed to help. They broke open the door and found both boys unconscious. The children were taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared them dead. Neighbours said they managed to put out the fire using fire extinguishers in the building, so no fire tender was called. However, by the time help arrived, it was too late to save the children.
Kota Superintendent of Police Tejeshwani Goutam visited the spot and confirmed that an investigation is underway. Circle Inspector Bhupendra Singh added that the entire drawing room was completely burned, with all the furniture reduced to ashes.
The heartbreaking news shocked the family and local community. When their mother returned from Mumbai, the bodies were handed over to the family. In a noble gesture, the parents decided to donate the children’s eyes to an eye bank, giving hope of sight to others.
