After Hanu-Man, Prasanth Varma Introduces Adhira In PVCU, Fans Spot Kalki Similarities

Prasanth Varma, the director who gave Indian cinema its first homegrown superhero with Hanu-Man in 2024, has now introduced another powerful character – Adhira. The makers recently unveiled the first look poster of this upcoming film, which has already started conversations among movie fans.

The poster shows actor Kalyan Dasari in a dramatic superhero landing pose. His costume has lightning-inspired elements, matching the name Adhira, which means “lightning” in Sanskrit. In the background, viewers can spot actor SJ Suryah in a terrifying look, wearing a demon’s crown, with a volcano erupting behind him. The visuals clearly aim to give the film a grand and mythological tone.

Although the film belongs to the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), it is not directed by Varma himself. Instead, filmmaker Sharan Koppisetty has taken the director’s chair. The project is produced under RKD Studios and presented by RK Duggal. Announcing the film, Varma posted on X (formerly Twitter): “When darkness blooms the world, a LIGHTNING of hope emerges.”

The first look of Adhira has received mixed reactions online. Some fans were excited to see a new superhero joining the Indian superhero universe and even praised it as a family-friendly option compared to violent films like Animal, KGF, and Leo.

On the other hand, several users criticized the poster, calling it “AI-made” or “a copy of Kalki 2898 AD.” They felt that Kalyan Dasari’s suit looked too similar to Prabhas’ character Bhairava from Kalki. Some even joked about the name “PVCU,” comparing it to pipe material instead of a cinematic universe.

The Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe started with Hanu-Man, a film that won praise for blending Indian mythology with a modern superhero story. It opened the doors for a full-fledged Indian superhero franchise. Upcoming films like Jai Hanuman are expected to expand the mythology further. With Adhira, PVCU is introducing a fresh character powered by lightning, promising a mix of fantasy, folklore, and action.
